Business angel Hrvoje Prpić (CRANE) invests in Wemy start-up

A Croatian application was launched and a member of CRANE, Hrvoje Prpić, believes it can compete with Instagram

Wemy, an application for selection of outfits, was launched on a regular Startup Wednesday, and a CRANE member Hrvoje Prpić has already decided to invest in it. Behind the application is a young team from Zagreb, and they presented it to the CRANE members for the first time already in December, as the participants of the Zagreb Entrepreneurship Incubator (ZIP) program.

“Wemy is a potentially very viral application. It is a direct competitor of Instagram, which is the third strongest social network in the world today and if teenagers like it, it could start a revolution in that field. Teenagers are leaving networks that have become commercial, such as Facebook, and .are turning to those closer to them, such as Snapchat. I think that Wemy has the potential to do the same with Instagram, to draw teenagers away from Instagram and towards Wemy,” assessed a member of CRANE’s Board of Directors, Hrvoje Prpić.

The application functions in a way that the user wears his/her wanted outfit, photographs him/herself, uploads the photo, and the rest of the users, complete strangers, give their reviews. So far, Wemy is recording the best response among the younger population, but it wants to become a product that will help all the generations in choosing their outfits, an inevitable advisor whenever one goes out or shops for clothes. It has been available for Androids since yesterday, and an iOS version is expected soon.

The team behind Wemy joined the ZIP program in October, and on December 12, when they presented the beta version, they were awarded 1,000 euros for their progress in the program. For the Wemy team, Hrvoje Prpić’s decision to support the project with his own investment was not only a confirmation of their quality, but also a way to attract the initial critical number of users on the platform.

“We met Hrvoje through the Zagreb Entrepreneurship Incubator and right at the beginning he gave us good advice on the development of our start-up because he also went through it. In Croatia there are very few quality investors/mentors who understand the entire process of creating a company, especially when it comes to start-ups” – said Dino Mileta, business developer in the Wemy start-up.

In CRANE, they believe that investing in Wemy is a confirmation of a successful symbiosis of business incubators and the network of investors. “Investors decide more easily to invest in a start-up that has been through some kind of a business program, so I invite all the potential entrepreneurs to join programs like this incubator before searching for investors” – said Davorin Štetner, President of CRANE.
